During this time of social distancing the Dane County Farmer’s Market Late Winter Market at Garver Feed Mill has found a way to help support local farmers and provide consumers with an opportunity to still purchase local food direct from the farmers.
Wednesday April 8 will be the third week of the pilot pickup program.
Consumers order ahead from directly from the farmers and pick up during designated times on Wednesday afternoon. This week they have added an extra half hour specifically for bicycle and pedestrian pick-ups. Vendors are spaced according to social distancing requirements, and customers only approach for their pickup one at a time.
As a pilot program, it has not yet been determined whether or how the pilot may move forward when the market was originally scheduled to return to the Capitol Square as of April 11th.
This week I picked up a heap of greens and we are enjoying fresh local salads, stir fry and smoothies with the bounty. We also picked up some sweet potatoes and red potatoes from Don’s Produce. Check out the list of participating vendors and their offerings for April 8th HERE.
Having the ability to maintain a sense of regular activities and knowing we can still enjoy fresh local food is reassuring for me during this crazy time. Sure wish they could bring back the bloody marys and mimosas!
